The process of photosynthesis is a complex interrelated series of events. This article will briefly describe how the process starts and ends by explaining each step in between.

Photosynthesis is the process of converting light energy into chemical energy that can be used by plants. It’s a vital part of the food chain and an important part of our planet’s ecology.

Process of Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is a process that allows plants to produce food.

In this article you will learn about the Photosynthesis is a process that allows plants to produce food. Step by step, Also know the Definition, Chlorophyll’s Function, C3 And  C4 Photosynthesis, Light-Depend Reaction VS Light-Independent Reaction, Formula for photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis is defined as:

It is a process in which plants synthesize oxygen and energy in the form of glucose from sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.

Photosynthesis is the conversion of light energy into chemical energy.

The majority of life on Earth is reliant on photosynthesis. Plants, algae, and other forms of bacteria carry out the process by capturing sunlight’s energy to generate oxygen and the chemical energy glucose, which is needed by plants for survival and subsequently ingested by herbivores and predators.

Chlorophyll’s Function

chlorophyll is responsible for the green color of the plant. Every plant has small organelles present in them which are known as. chloroplasts. Chloroplasts store the energy of sunlight in them. Within the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts is a light-absorbing pigment called chlorophyll. During the Photosynthesis is a process that allows plants to produce food., chlorophyll takes the sunlight in the form of blue and red rays, thus reflecting back green rays so the plant could appear green.

Photosynthesis of C3 and C4

Not all plants follow the same Photosynthesis is a process that allows plants to produce food., therefore there are 2 major kinds of photosynthesis, C3, and C4.

C3 photosynthesis- The majority of plants employ C3 photosynthesis. During the Calvin Cycle, a three-carbon molecule termed 3-phosphoglyceric acid is produced, which is then converted to glucose.

C4 photosynthesis, on the other hand, creates a four-carbon intermediate product that, during the Calvin Cycle, divides into carbon dioxide and a three-carbon compound.

C4 photosynthesis is superior than C3 photosynthesis in that it permits plants to thrive in environments with little light and water.

Reactions that are light-dependent vs. reactions that are light-independent

Photosynthesis takes place in a variety of ways. Light-dependent and light-dependent reactions are two of them.

LIGHT-DEPENDENT REACTIONS- In plants, this reaction occurs in thylakoid membranes. It need light to make its meal. Chlorophyll takes energy from light wavelengths and converts it into chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH molecules.

LIGHT-INDEPENDENT REACTION- The Calvin cycle, also known as the light-independent stage, occurs in the area between the thylakoid and chloroplast membranes and does not need light, thus the term light-independent reaction. Energy from the ATP and NADPH molecules is utilized to construct carbohydrate molecules, such as glucose, from carbon dioxide at this cycle.

Photosynthesis is a process that allows plants to produce food.

The procedure is divided into three steps:

  • Plants need chlorophyll to absorb light, which gives them their green hue.
  • Stomata on plant leaves collect carbon dioxide from the environment and convert it to sugars.
  • The plant’s roots receive water and minerals from xylem vessels and deliver them to the plant’s roots. The light energy (sunlight) obtained by the plants is subsequently transformed into chemical energy (glucose), which gives the plant its energy.

The photosynthesis formula is:

C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants use light energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into organic compounds, releasing oxygen as a waste product. The process is important because it allows plants to live in environments where there is little or no free oxygen. Reference: photosynthesis for kids.
