Short Essay on P.T. Usha, 200 words, Talent, Award

(An essay on P.T. Usha) P.T Usha was born in Melady, a small hamlet in Kerala, in 1964. She was a frail, sickly youngster who was never expected to do anything involving’sports,’ especially those that needed a lot of energy. Usha’s potential was spotted by an uncle on her mother’s side, who arranged for her to enter Kerala’s Sports Training Scheme. Usha won silver medals in the 100 and 200 meters sprints in the New Delhi Asian Games in 1982, thanks to a committed coach named O.M. Nambiar. Usha has won gold medals in almost every individual event she has competed in in Asian women’s track & field athletics since then.

Her most notable triumph was at the 1986 Soul Asian Games, when she won gold medals in four different events. Usha came within a whisker of being the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal when she was beaten to fourth place by a tenth of a second in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics 400-meter hurdles event.

Usha resigned from sports after the 1988 Seoul Olympics, saying farewell to the tracks in Beijing, where she failed to win a single gold medal at the 1990 Asian Games. The Golden Girl is supposed to have retired without a gold medal.
